HAZET 804 Toolbox — Vintage Blue

A beautifully battered example of the HAZET 804, one of the classic German metal toolboxes of the mid-century workshop.

Produced by German toolmaker HAZET, the 804 was designed as a substantial folding toolbox in pressed steel, with multiple compartments that open out from the central body. HAZET's historical catalogue describes the 804 as a five-part, lockable toolbox made from heavy-gauge sheet steel, with the distinctive sloping lid and folding mechanism.

This example retains its original HAZET blue finish, now heavily worn from decades of use. The surface is covered in scratches, chips, oxidisation and areas of exposed steel, giving the box an exceptional industrial patina. The original HAZET badge remains on the lid, while the 804 marking is visible on the upper section.

The folding mechanism is particularly good visually, with the articulated arms and riveted construction exposed as the box opens. Inside, the original blue-painted compartments remain intact.

It's the sort of object that works equally well as a functional toolbox or as a piece of industrial and automotive design history — particularly good displayed in a garage, workshop, studio or alongside a collection of vintage automobilia. Highly suitable for any Porsche, Mercedes or Volkswagen enthusiast.

Condition

Heavily patinated vintage condition.

The toolbox displays extensive original paint loss, scratches, scuffs, surface rust and oxidisation throughout. The handle, hinges, folding arms and edges all show considerable signs of age and use. The interior also retains substantial wear. The toolbox functions as it should and all patina has been preserved behind a hard wax coating.
