Vintage Pan Am Penguin Windproof Lighter, Japan — 1950s–60s

A great piece of mid-century aviation ephemera, this vintage Penguin windproof lighter was produced in Japan for Pan Am, featuring the airline's instantly recognisable blue globe emblem.

Made by Penguin, one of Japan's notable lighter manufacturers, the lighter has the classic rectangular, Zippo-style form with a hinged flip-top and brushed metal case. The base is marked "Penguin High Quality Sharp Lighter Japan".

Dating from approximately the 1950s–60s, it captures the golden age of commercial air travel and the distinctive visual language of Pan American World Airways.

The lighter has developed a beautifully worn surface over time, with scratches and patina consistent with age and use. The original Pan Am enamel-style emblem remains intact and provides a strong contrast against the aged metal case.

A compact piece of airline history that works equally well as a collectible, desk object or piece of vintage travel memorabilia.
